What is PRF?

Our team of cosmetic clinicians

We’re genuinely excited & dedicated to providing the latest, most effective treatments for skin rejuvenation and overall cosmetic enhancement. Our latest treatment option is Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF). PRF is known & loved for its ability to stimulate your collagen production, rejuvenate your skin, and improve hair growth. So, if you’re looking for a more natural treatment, PRF might be for you.

With this being said, we still believe there is a strong case for dermal fillers, however it all comes down to personal preference, your desired outcome & the amount of time you’re willing to wait for results. As you’ll find out, PRF is a longer game, with results driven by your bodies natural response. Positively, you’ll see improvment in a matter of weeks post treatment.

W’ve had a number of clients enquire about PRF treatment, so before booking your PRF appointment, you may have a few questions which we have endeavoured to answer here.

What is PRF and how does it work?

PRF, or Platelet-Rich Fibrin, is a natural substance derived from your own blood. PRF is an advanced form of Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) and is used in many of our cosmetic treatments for skin rejuvenation and hair restoration. During the PRF procedure, blood is drawn from your arm and processed to separate the platelets and growth factors from the rest of your blood. Unlike PRP, PRF does not require the use of anticoagulants, which allows for a purer concentration of platelets and growth factors. These growth factors are then injected into areas of concern to stimulate healing, collagen production, and overall rejuvenation. In essence, we are taking all of the good properties & focusing them on one small area of your body!

How Is PRF different from PRP?

This is one our most commonly asked questions. While both PRF and PRP involve using your own blood to promote healing and rejuvenation, the two treatments differ in several ways:

  • PRF contains a higher concentration of platelets and growth factors than PRP.

  • PRF is free from anticoagulants, which makes it a more natural and effective option. PRP contains chemicals that are used to prevent platelets from clumping together, but these chemicals can sometimes limit the potency of the treatment.

  • PRF has a slower release of growth factors, providing a prolonged and sustained effect, whereas PRP offers a faster, but shorter-term, release.

In short, PRF is a more advanced, second-generation treatment compared to PRP, making it more effective for long-term skin and hair restoration.

What can PRF treat?

PRF is an incredibly versatile treatment with a wide range of applications in cosmetic procedures. We use PRF to address several skin and hair concerns, including:

  • Skin Rejuvenation: PRF can stimulate collagen production, improve skin texture, and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, leaving you with a youthful glow.

  • Hair Restoration: PRF is known to help promote hair growth by revitalizing hair follicles, making it an excellent option for individuals dealing with hair thinning or hair loss.

  • Acne Scars: PRF can improve the appearance of acne scars by promoting skin healing and regeneration.

  • Under-Eye Treatment: PRF growth factors in PRF can reduce puffiness and dark circles around the eyes, resulting in a refreshed look.

Is PRF Safe?

Yes, PRF is a safe and non-invasive procedure. Since it uses your own blood, there is little to no risk of allergic reactions or rejection. PRF has been widely used in the medical and cosmetic industries for years, and it has shown promising results for both skin and hair rejuvenation. However, as with any medical procedure, it's essential to consult with our team prior to treatment. If it’s your first time, you will also speak with one of our doctors, to ensure treatment is right for you.

How long does the PRF treatment take?

The entire PRF treatment process typically takes about 45-60 minutes. This includes the time it takes to draw and process your blood, as well as the time spent administering the PRF injections. The procedure is relatively quick and can be done during your lunch break, making it a convenient option if you’re busy. (Aren’t we all)

Is there any downtime after PRF treatment?

One of the major advantages of PRF is that it requires minimal downtime. After the procedure, you may experience mild swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection sites, but these effects usually subside within a few hours to a few days. Most people are able to resume their regular activities immediately after the treatment, though we recommend avoiding intense exercise or heat exposure for 24-48 hours following the procedure to ensure optimal results.

When will I see results from PRF?

Results from PRF can take some time to appear. Since PRF works by stimulating collagen production and healing within your skin or hair follicles, it may take 4-6 weeks before you start noticing visible improvements. For skin treatments, the effects can continue to improve for up to 3-6 months as collagen production ramps up. In the case of hair restoration, you may start seeing hair regrowth after 2 to 3 months, with full results typically visible within 6 months.

How much does PRF cost?

At BYGOLDEN, the cost of PRF treatments typically averages around $550 per session. Prices may vary depending on the specific area being treated and the number of sessions required to achieve your desired results. We recommend booking a consultation with one of our experienced specialists to get a personalised treatment plan and cost estimate.

How many PRF sessions will I need?

The number of PRF sessions required varies depending on your circumstances & goals and the area being treated. For skin rejuvenation, we typically recommend a series of 2 to 3 sessions spaced about 4-6 weeks apart to achieve optimal results. For hair restoration, multiple treatments may be required over several months to see noticeable improvements. Your practitioner will discuss your treatment plan in detail during your consultation.

Are PRF results permanent?

PRF can provide long-lasting results, but it’s important to note that the treatment doesn’t stop the natural aging process. For skin rejuvenation, PRF results can last for many months, and occasional maintenance treatments may be recommended to maintain a fresh appearance. For hair restoration, you may need periodic treatments to continue promoting hair growth.
